Ross has worked in the building industry for more than 10 years as a builder project manager and is currently an energy efficiency consultant at The Energy Network Worldwide. Previously, Ross worked as a contract relations manager at the Neighborhood Energy Connection, as a builder account executive/building performance specialist at Cocoon, as a builder program account executive at Residential Science Resources, and as owner of Advanced Energy Consulting.
Alissa holds degrees in interior design and in occupational therapy. This combination of experience and education provides her with the skills and insight to create functional and pleasing environments to meet the needs of clients and promote safe and independent living for people of all ages and abilities. Prior to founding Access Solutions, Alissa worked for residential and commercial design firms specializing in senior housing and accessible design. She also has worked in skilled nursing facilities providing therapy to seniors. These experiences have given her first-hand knowledge and access to the barriers that seniors and the aging encounter on a daily basis. She also is involved in many local and state organizations focused on seniors and aging in place, teaching and speaking about aging in place and universal design to students, professionals, and community members.
Minnesota Construction Law Services
Bill started Minnesota Construction Law Services in 2012 focusing on residential construction and small business law providing legal and business services to residential contractors and other owner-operated businesses. He became a lawyer after more than 25 years in the business world to bring common sense and business principles to the implementation of legal services for the construction industry.
University of Minnesota
Patrick is an associate professor in Residential Energy and Building Systems with the University of Minnesota’s Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering and serves as coordinator of the Cold Climate Housing Program with the University of Minnesota Extension. He is a lead faculty member for the Residential Building Science and Technology undergraduate degree program and a principal investigator for hydrothermal testing at the Cloquet Residential Research Facility. Currently, Pat is the project lead for NorthernSTAR, one of the Department of Energy’s Building America teams.
Tim graduated from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Business, in 1976, and is also a graduate of The Oklahoma Banking School in Norman, Oklahoma. He has worked for the Bremer/Reim Family since he graduated from the U of M and is halfway through his 44th year of being in the banking business in the Twin Cities. He currently serves as senior vice president of commercial banking at Alliance Bank in St. Paul, Minnesota. Mr. Hughes has experienced and observed many fraud/cyber security situations during his time in the banking industry.
Dave is employed with Glenbrook Lumber & Edgebuilder Wall Panels and has been a continuing education instructor since 2015. Previously, he worked for BlueLinx, Structural Wood Corporation, Weyerhaeuser Distribution, and Trus Joist/Weyerhaeuser.
Code Educational Opportunities
Greg is a building official for the City of Winona, MN. Greg has extensive background in developing and presenting all types of building code and related seminars. As a staff Instructor with the International Code Council and as a building code representative with the State of Minnesota Codes and Standards Division, Greg has traveled locally, throughout the United States, and abroad providing training to contractors, building officials and inspectors, design professionals, and other individuals with a vested interest in the codes. Greg served as an adjunct faculty in the Building Inspection Technology program at Inver Hills Community College in Minnesota. In previous career paths, Greg has worked in the lumber industry, truss industry, and as a general contractor. Greg holds certifications as an ICC and State of MN Certified Building Official, ICC Plans Examiner, ICC Building Inspector, and ICC Building Code Specialist. Greg holds a certificate of completion in the Building Inspection Technology program as well as background and education in the architectural drafting field.
ZOTA Professional Training
Thomas has a master’s degree in education administration and has extensive experience in the construction and lead paint renovation industry. He is an EPA-approved Principal Instructor for the Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Program and has a thorough understanding of the rule requirements. Thomas has worked as a laborer and most recently with a big-box store so he understands specific procedural applications and material and equipment requirements of the RRP Rule. Thomas has been instructing the Lead Renovator course with ZOTA Professional Training for nearly eight years. His education and experience allow him to bring real world experience into the classroom to create a meaningful learning environment.
Green Code Knowledge
Peter has three decades of experience in the construction and building code industry as an author, educator, and expert in residential building codes, energy codes, and green building practices. Peter is certified by the International Code Council as a Building Inspector, Plans Examiner, and Green Building-Residential; By the State of Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry as a Certified Building Official and Certified Instructor; By the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) as LEED AP Homes; and by the State of California as a CALGreen Inspector.
Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry
Richard is a building code representative at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, Construction Codes and Licensing Division. He has worked in the Plan Review Section, Education, Rules and Code Development Section, and currently the Senior Code Development Coordinator for the adoption of the 2018 international model codes for Minnesota. Richard has been the technical advisory group (TAG) leader for the 2006, 2012, and 2018 International Residential Code adoptions. He also provides technical assistance on the code content to shareholders and participates in the development and presentation of educational seminars when available. Before joining the Construction Codes and Licensing Division in 2002, Richard spent the previous 17 years working in code enforcement for an east metro jurisdiction.

Janice is Director of Finance and Administration for Housing First Minnesota. She has more than three decades of experience in the finance field. Janice is a Certified Public Accountant (Inactive) and has experience in small to mid-sized organizations, along with public accounting experience. Industry background includes professional services, investment management, publishing, and associations.
Northstar Associates, Inc.
John started in the remodeling industry in 1980 as a laborer, installing roofing, siding, windows, and doors. In 1989 John’s career went from field installation to distribution and manufacturing for five years. He sold home improvements for four years and in 1998 started with Northstar Associates as a manufacturer’s representative focused on exterior envelope products and solutions. John has been a trainer for national building products manufacturers, distributors, and national contractors.
Shawn is president of New Spaces, a residential design/build remodeler company and served as president of Housing First Minnesota in 2014. Shawn grew up working every kind of job at New Spaces with a first-hand look at remodeling and the difference it could make in a family’s life. He earned a B.A. from Valparaiso University in business and an MBA from the University of Saint Thomas – School of Business. His favorite tool is his computer.

APA Engineered Wood Association
Ron Nuttall graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Business Administration and joined APA in 2017. He began his career with Georgia-Pacific’s distribution division in Texas and relocated with GP to their Denver sales center in 1996. After leaving GP, he promoted engineered wood products for both TrusJoist and BlueLinx before joining APA. His responsibilities for APA include consulting with large builders, professional designers, and code officials in the West Central US territory. Ron conducts workshops and presentations for designers, code officials, and other building professionals on best practices for specification, selection, and application of engineered wood products and is a provider of CEUs for designers and code officials.
Jerry has a broad range of management experience including the roles of vice president, general manager, and chief operations officer. He been in varied industries including insurance, manufacturing, and telecommunications and served in leadership roles in human resources, operations, and general management. Jerry has been the facilitator for Housing First Minnesota’s popular Leadership Institute. His work as a business consultant and facilitator with small and large organizations has provided understanding the challenges leaders face and what it takes to be successful.

Alden has been trying cases as lead attorney before the state and federal courts in Minnesota since 1997 and, more recently, Wisconsin. Alden has been educating contractors for over a decade with practical information focused on licensing compliance, customer and subcontractor relations, and the use of legal leverage to resolve disputes.

Jim has been involved in the roofing industry since 1992. Jim started as a commercial roofing estimator/project manager at Central Roofing Company. Four years later, Jim joined GAF. For 11 years Jim took on a variety of roles at GAF, from territory manager to regional sales manager. Over the course of the 15 years, Paul experience includes inspections on commercial, residential, plumbing, mechanical, fuel and gas, residential energy, commercial energy, fire inspections, local zoning ordinances, vacant buildings, rental, sections eight housing, large scale housing developments, multi-level assisted living facilities, and large-scale commercial buildings.
