This is an informative full-day course that walks through durable design, continuous insulation, composite siding, steel roofing, and law.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the three methods of heat transfer and how insulation addresses each one
  • Describe several types of rigid insulation board technologies and their “fitness for use” in different applications
  • Discuss strategies for designing thinner walls while maintaining or increasing thermal performance
  • Identify the fire performance characteristics of different rigid insulation board technologies
  • Identify the various types of exterior siding
  • Identify the key attributes of each siding category
  • Identify the installation concerns for each siding category
  • Define the Poly-Ash category of exterior siding and performance attributes of the material
  • Identify key applications and installation guidelines for Poly-Ash siding
  • Identify and recognize the high-performance characteristics of metal roofing (wind and weather resistance, fire classification, and durability) as determined by national standards
  • Investigate the design potential and innovative opportunities to use metal roofing in a variety of profiles and colors to create sustainable buildings
  • Assess the functional contributions of metal roofing as part of the green and sustainable design of a building
  • Specify metal roofing in a variety of green and conventional buildings selecting from a variety of choices and options
  • Identify and recognize the high-performance characteristics of metal roofing (wind and weather resistance, fire classification, and durability) as determined by national standards
  • Identify requirements for disclosures, required contract provisions, and requirements for construction funds
