This course will focus on best practices for whole house ventilation in cold climates. However, ventilation in a home doesn’t happen in a vacuum. There are four types of air that must be properly managed in design and in operation. In addition to ventilation air, there is circulation air, make-up air, and combustion air. While each is important, they also interact and potentially interfere with one another, especially in tighter homes. The course will define each and explore best practices that will fit with the modern house and their occupants.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define and understand the four types of air in a home
  • Recognize system interactions that can impact performance
  • Identify critical issues and solutions for ventilation
  • Identify critical issues and solutions for depressurization and make-up air
  • Recognize different ventilation strategies and why they matter
  • Identify the need for robust ventilation, circulation, and make-up systems

CE Credits:

  • MN Contractor – 3 Credits – ENERGY
  • MN Building Official – 3 Credits
  • MN Realtor – 3 Credits
  • WI Contractor – 2 Credits
