This course will focus on deck construction in the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC) and highlight the significant change from section R507 in the 2015 Minnesota Residential code to R507 of the 2018 IRC in order to prepare for the new code provisions anticipated to be effective in March 2020.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Have a clear understanding of deck construction in 2018 IRC model code and the significant differences from our current 2015 Minnesota Residential Code
  • Identify how to locate information, interpret code sections, and utilize code requirements from the 2018 IRC section R507
  • Recognize and understand how the provisions in 2018 IRC (Sec R507) apply to their profession in the regulated industry to better prepare for March 2020 Minnesota residential code adoption
  • Implement anticipated changes and an administrative process for smoother permit submittal and plan review compliance
  • Prepare the model code user with the necessary information to effectively use the 2018 IRC in Minnesota
  • Effectively answer questions dealing with the 2018 IRC Deck Construction provisions (R507)
